Big SaaS is dying and Little SaaS is on the rise!

The SaaS giants are falling, and we are beginning to see the rising of what I am calling ‘Little SaaS’, and while I think you’ve probably noticed Big SaaS’s response, you probably haven’t understood the dynamic at play.

Here is what I believe it means for the future of tech.

Ok, so, picture a world where your entire business application tech stack comes from companies you’ve never heard of - no more salesforce, no more qualtrics, no more service now. Your software, instead comes from highly niche business influencer that understands your customers, operations, and market at a level those other guys could only dream of.

That world will be here sooner than you think.

As a technology and product leader spending a lot of time in the AI powered creator community on X and LinkedIn, I’ve witnessed first hand the birth of ‘Little SaaS’. Lean, mean, AI-powered micro-companies that are reimaging and redefining how technology is built, bought and consumed. AI is transforming what it takes to discover, define, design, and build technology and technology companies.

I wanted to share three things I’ve noticed about these grass-roots disruptors.

  1. First is the power of focus: These “Little SaaS” companies aren’t trying to be all things to all people. They’re very focused on solving specific industry challenges for smaller, more focused user segments better than anyone else.

  1. Second they are using AI as a force multiplier: These small teams are using AI to do the work of entire departments. They’re innovating faster and operating leaner than Big SaaS ever could. Anyone that has been involved in a big company quarterly planning cycle knows what I am talking about.

  2. Third, clever bundling is key: Little SaaS is finding ways to bundle and bring together about smart combinations of capabilities that provide just enough power to get the job done. Big SaaS products are filled with feature bloat that someone has to pay for, and customers are figuring that out.

As a professional in tech, this revolution is inescapable. Those that recognize what is happening, and prepare, will be the ones positioned to win in this new world.
